Literary Lounge Round-Up

Posted 24th July 2024

Over the past three weeks before summer break, The Literary Lounge has transformed into a hub of enthusiasm, enquiry, and escapism. Many pupils are well on their way to becoming ‘Bibliophiles’ (meaning they will have read five books and will receive their bronze book pin). Congratulations to Chenxu Z. (Year 8), who has topped the leader board, reading a total of four books, and Sam A. (Year 7), who has finished three books - you are excellent reading ambassadors for your year groups!

Proving invaluable to those indecisive readers seeking strong recommendations, a flurry of book reviews now grace the noticeboards. The buzz and chatter of conversations relating to setting, characterisation, and plot animate room 1.01, with the throng of avid and curious readers increasing week by week.

Thank you to the teachers and pupils who have generously donated books, which have become firm favourites among attendees. Any further donations will be eagerly received and shelved by our librarian, Lawrence D. (Year 7), who noticed that the books and cushions were in disarray and volunteered his organisational services. Thank you, Lawrence!

As a literary collective, we want our initiative to continue to thrive and expand during the next academic year, creating legions of ‘Bibliophiles,’ ‘Voracious Readers,’ and ‘Literary Lounge Legends.’ We are excited by the creative possibilities it offers and hope to establish a meaningful and enduring reading culture at Dixons Croxteth.

Here are some individual comments from students sharing their positive experiences and opinions about The Literary Lounge. Each statement highlights personal benefits and feelings associated with the space:

"Firstly, The Literary Lounge is a fun place to read and explore new worlds, whether it is mythical dragons fighting brave knights or gunfire in the trenches of World War II -there is a story for everyone. My favourite story is The Hunger Games. These stories are not for homework; they are for joy and imagination! One of my favourite parts of the Lounge is that after reading five books, you get a badge – the more books you read, the better your badge gets. Once you finish your book, you write a paragraph about why you should read the book. This Lounge will hold memories, laughs, and imagination. Come read with us; there's always a new adventure!" Gerard D. (Year 7)
"I like The Literary Lounge because it is peaceful, and I can relax my mind when I am reading." John J. (Year 7)
"I like The Literary Lounge because my body goes into relaxation mode and it really makes my day." Harley Q. (Year 7)
"I like coming here because it’s relaxing to read with my friends, and it makes me feel like I am in a different universe" Sam A. (Year 7)
"It’s fun and helps our knowledge. The people are nice and caring." Adeniyi I. (Year 7)
"It is a good idea because it can make people interested in reading and help them learn new words." Akshaj D. (Year 7)
